What to munch on while you cheer for Taylor's boyfriend this Super Bowl Sunday
Go Taylor's boyfriend!!!
I had the pleasure of filming a short video for the hospital’s social media that will probably be shared this weekend, and the girl from marketing and I decided we’d just be unhinged and have some fun with it.
She asked for a couple of healthy tips for Super Bowl Sunday, and I delivered-football and all included.
But for now, before you see me making a fool out of myself running to catch a football, I’ll leave you with 5 snack ideas to tackle your gameday spread.
Chicken wings, chicken wings
I’m too tempted to make Molly Baz’s grilled buffalo wings with scallion cilantro lime salsa- I’m gonna need to find a grill first, BRB...
A massive veggie plate for extra color and fiber
The more color, the more appealing, I think. Try cherry tomatoes, baby carrots, celery sticks, broccoli, yellow bell peppers, radishes…you name it.
Pair with some high-protein dips to keep you full and satisfied:
A good ol’ hummus (I’m personally a fan of garlic and red pepper) or make your own hummus with beets for extra color
Tzatziki! Easy recipe here
Yogurt + powdered ranch = higher protein ranch, and it’s just thicker and more dip than dressing, and I love it. If you like your ranch on the thinner side, try adding it to Kefir instead of yogurt (I swear, it tastes amazing)
Charcuterie board, a real no-brainer!
I think the key to a good charcuterie board lies in having not only a variety of flavors, but also a variety of textures. For a gathering of 8-10 people, 2-3 meats, 3-4 cheeses (a mix between soft cheeses and hard ones), and a variety of extras should do the trick-unless your people are ravenously hungry, in that case you’re on your own kid! Get it....
Nuts and seeds for healthy fats. Try adding a mix of sweet and salty ones, or for similar vibes roasted chickpeas and edamame can help add some extra crunch!
You know I love my veggies so toothpicks with cherry tomatoes, basil, and mini mozzarella balls with a little balsamic glaze are *chef’s kiss* and a side of kalamata and green olives (toss these with olive oil, salt, lemon zest, garlic, red pepper flakes and add some Marcona almonds if you wanna get fancy)
Grapes, dates, dried cranberries and apricots for some chewiness
Chocolate for some fun
Can’t forget the crackers! If you feel like going above and beyond and want to make some instead of having store bought, I like this recipe
Your jams or spreads of choice, think honey, fig jam, peppery jams, chutneys, go crazy!
Dry January’s over…
It’s a Sunday, to drink, or not to drink? Well, I once went to a party where for every touchdown we’d all do shots, but those days seem long gone…
Your alcohol of choice, but it’s the Super Bowl, I guess you can never go wrong with a 6 pack?
Iced tea (I like to boil 4 bags of Lipton black tea with 2 bags of Peach tea for 10 minutes and add lemon/sugar to taste)
Sparkly fizzy drinks! Think Poppi, Olipop, Perrier, La Croix… or slice up some cucumbers/lemons/oranges and add them to a pitcher with some herbs for flavored water sans bubbles
You can never have enough dips
Can’t go wrong with some guac, always add a final squeeze of lemon for good luck!
This slow cooked salsa pairs well with tortilla chips too, and is easy to prep it ahead of time
Spinach dip - It’s a sin to make a spinach dip and not try and re-create Houston’s spinach and artichoke dip! Add some crostini or pita chips on the side
A taco bake, though not exaaactly a dip, is usually a great crowd pleaser
Okay okay, ‘nough food talk, may the best team win, and by that I mean Taylor’s boyfriend!
But if my nephews ask, GO 49ERS!
